Services
General Services
CRA’s clients include over 500 public and private utilities,
utility associations, contractors, industries, government organizations,
and individuals in 50 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The primary thrust of our efforts is to assist those responsible
for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining public and
private electric supply and communication systems in assuring that:
| • |
their standards meet applicable codes and regulations,
as well as promote efficient construction and maintenance |
| • |
their personnel are (a) trained in the requirements of applicable
codes and regulations and (b) sensitized to potential hazards
they could find in the workplace or create as a part of their
work |
We also assist in investigating and analyzing accidents, resolving
disputes, solving problems with electrical utilization wiring
systems, and testing
equipment.
For engineering design services, Clapp Research engineers are licensed
in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, New Jersey, Hawaii, Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Engineering Analysis and Testing
CRA analyzes engineering methods, designs, and procedures related
to generation, transmission, distribution, and use of electricity
and communication signals.
CRA also tests and evaluates electrical products and equipment
for compliance with applicable standards and for failure characteristics
Examples of past engineering work include analyses of:
| • |
grounding
system |
| • |
pole selection,
testing, inspection, and replacement programs |
| • |
emergency
power systems |
| • |
power quality |
| • |
electrical
noise |
| • |
foundations
and structures |
| • |
lightning
protection systems |
| • |
electronic
meters |
Standards Development
CRA evaluates existing standards and assists clients in developing
new design, engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance
standards to:
| • |
promote
compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations |
| • |
promote
safe, easy and efficient construction and maintenance |
| • |
promote
commonality of parts and reduce inventory costs |
| • |
reduce
training costs |
Forensic Analysis
CRA personnel have investigated over 1,300 accidents. We analyze
failures of equipment, structures, operations, and procedures,
including electrical
contact
accidents and electrical fires.
CRA personnel are particularly qualified to assess allegations
of failure to meet the National Electrical Safety Code, the National
Electrical
Code, and
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Depending on the assistance desired, we provide reports and testimony
on the cause(s) of the accident or failure. We also provide color
diagrams, animation,
and models for use in trial.
Accident Reconstruction
CRA frequently conducts tests or reconstructs accidents to determine
or illustrate the cause(s) of accidents and to prove or refute
allegations concerning causal
relationships.
Dispute Resolution
Often the best method of resolving disputes between utilities,
engineers, contractors, and customers is through arbitration
or mediation. Clapp
Research Associates
can provide arbitrators or mediators, or can assist in
preparing presentations and testimony.
